NAT began in 2019 as a small group of students passionate about neurotechnology, an emerging field with the potential to revolutionize human-computer interaction, healthcare, and much more.
Despite its potential, neurotech remains largely inaccessible to many, due to a lack of educational resources and entry points for young people, especially those from marginalized groups.
To address this gap, we’ve dedicated countless volunteer hours to making neurotech and other emerging technologies more accessible.
What started as a student-led initiative has now evolved into a thriving nonprofit organization encompassing 3 city chapters.
Milestones
NAT created an official student group at UAlberta and hosted our first events, hack nights.
2019
Workshops and event programming began, and planning for the inaugural natHACKS hackathon took shape.
2020
NAT became a registered nonprofit, launched the first natHACKS, and expanded with a new chapter at UCalgary.
2021
ULethbridge joined the network, and NAT reached $100,000 in total funding.

We grew our team to 20+ members, surpassed $250,000 in funding, started development on 3 digital platforms, and received the ASTech Award for Community Initiatives.
